Story Hunters
The secret to choosing a name for a motion design studio
Story Hunters is an example of a name created together with the client.
When motion design studio Infografika approached LINII, the agency team was happy to have the opportunity to work with colleagues from a related industry. But they had no idea how closely we would collaborate.
The naming brief was a fascinating read, immersing the namers in the world of animation and video infographics. The task was to develop a new name for the Russian branch of the studio. The project went through two stages of developing options, choosing favorites, and sending the names for patent verification.
The days of waiting for the results of the verification for the possibility of registration in Rospatent are always a bit nerve-wracking — LINII is worried about their names. It was especially exciting this time, since one of the names was very short — only four letters. When the verification results came, it turned out that both chosen names were available for registration as trademarks.
The agency team hurried to share the good news with the client, but did not receive the expected reaction. The client thought about it.
Before contacting LINII, Infografika conducted internal work on naming. One of the names on the shortlist sank into everyone's hearts — the word Hunters. In addition to the obvious advantages — short, dictionary-like, easy to read and remember, active and energetic — it had its own history.
However, it was impossible to register the name Hunters: patent purity checks revealed identical or confusingly similar trademarks.
But since the word Hunters did not let go of the client (which is not surprising for a word with such charisma), despite the chosen new names with high chances of registration, LINII specialists suggested several phrases with Hunters. In the end, the option Story Hunters won.
